IPHC-2023-MR-011 First fishing period in the non-tribal directed commercial fishery in IPHC Regulatory Area 2A

SEATTLE – First fishing period in the non-tribal directed commercial fishery in IPHC Regulatory Area 2A will begin at 8:00 a.m. on 27 June and will end at 6:00 p.m. on 29 June local time.

For the first time, the annual management measures are being implemented by NOAA Fisheries. The process of transitioning management authority from the IPHC to NOAA Fisheries was initiated in 2019. The final rule (87 FR 74322) implementing the transition was published on 5 December 2022 and became effective on 4 January 2023. Accordingly, participants to the non-tribal directed commercial fishery in IPHC Regulatory Area 2A should consult NOAA Fisheries website for details about the upcoming fishing periods and vessel limits.

The overall annual allocation for non-tribal directed commercial fishery in IPHC Regulatory Area 2A for 2023 is 117 metric tons (257,819 pounds) – see the IPHC Fishery Regulations 2023 for more details.
