IPHC Media Release 2021-024 Non-Treaty Directed Commercial Fishery in IPHC Regulatory Area 2A: CLOSED

SEATTLE – Closure: The International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) has closed the  IPHC Regulatory Area 2A Pacific halibut non-treaty directed commercial fishery (the fishery) for the remainder of 2021.

2021 Fishery statistics:

  • The 2021 total allocation for this fishery is 116.17 metric tonnes (256,122 pounds).
  • An estimated 104.97 metric tonnes (231,423 pounds) have been landed during the three (3) 2021 fishing periods (22 to 24 June, 6 to 8 July, and 20 to 22 July).

Given this estimate, its preliminary status, and that updates are still being received for each fishing period, the IPHC has closed this fishery for the remainder of 2021 effective immediately.
