IPHC Media Release 2020-026 Non-Tribal Directed Commercial Fishery in IPHC Regulatory Area 2A: CLOSED

SEATTLE – Closure: The International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) has closed the IPHC Regulatory Area 2A Pacific halibut non-tribal directed commercial fishery (the fishery) for the remainder of 2020.

2020 Fishery statistics:

  • The 2020 total allocation for this fishery is 115.41 metric tonnes (254,426 pounds).
  • An estimated 110.06 metric tonnes (242,647 pounds) have been landed during the five 2020 fishing periods (22 to 24 June, 6 to 8 July, 20 to 22 July, 3 to 5 August and 17 to 19 August).

Given this estimate, its preliminary status and that updates are still being received for earlier fishing periods, the IPHC has closed this fishery for the remainder of 2020 effective immediately.
